Without being too spoilery on the story: The issue there is that your character's problem is tied to a greater problem in the Forgotten Realms universe. It is almost impossible *not* to end up lawful good, because suppression is, in most cases, better than devouring spirits. Unfortunately, it screws up alignments completely. The theory behind the 'spirit meter' was to use it as a way to prevent the 'fight-rest-buff-fight-rest' cycle that was common in NWN2. Eating spirits shifts your alignment to evil, while suppressing the urge shifts you to lawful good. In Gameplay, they added a new set of abilities and a feature (your character eats spirits, if s/he doesn't s/he dies). There were two problems with Mask: Gameplay and Story. That is a reasonably accurate description. Kinda like KOTOR II, only Obsidian has nobody else to blame this time. Then it falls apart and completely sucks at the end. Almost a return to the quality and style of Planescape. What I've heard (all second- or third-hand) is that it starts really, really good. How is the expansion? (Mask of the betrayer)
